Book design: “Traumwelten”
A book about dreams that is half read and half written in.
“Traumwelten” is a book about dreaming — a first part to read, and an appendix with a dream diary to fill in yourself, with a template and symbols, and a mantra on the last page.
This division in two was the design task. A reading book and a writing book follow opposing rules: one wants to guide, the other wants to leave room. I kept both parts in the same typography but opened up the type area the moment the diary begins — the reader notices from the white space that it is now their turn, without anyone having to say so.
Two editions were typeset, hardcover and paperback, each with its own cover design. The covers differ in more than format: a hardcover is given as a gift, a paperback is carried around.
I know Ursula Knoll privately. That makes projects like this nicer and harder at the same time — you dare to say more, and you also have to.

Typeface
Bodoni 72 inside, in Book, Bold and Italic — Baskerville on the cover. Both are serifs with strong stroke contrast; they give the pages the calm a journal needs.
