A site that has to mediate between a public authority and worried residents.
The municipality of Steinen set up a neighbourhood management office for the Köchlin quarter — in response to concerns among residents about existing and planned social housing that is also to accommodate refugees. The office’s brief: connect people, mediate, involve citizens from the start rather than merely informing them.
Building a website for a task like that is more delicate than it looks. It must not gloss anything over, or it loses the sceptics. But it must not sound defensive either, or it confirms the worry. And it has to be usable by people who are not otherwise much online.
The route was plainness: state clearly what the neighbourhood management office is and why it was set up, list the tasks one by one, document the state of the building project openly, and offer a visible, named contact person with a mobile number. Getting involved is a section of its own, not a footnote.
Everything from the logo to the site came from me. That contact later led to the town of Schopfheim.

Typeface
Hind for headings and text, Open Sans and Varela Round in supporting roles. Hind was drawn for screens and stays legible at 14 pixels — which matters on a site with many older readers.
